A Refreshing Pick-me-up

If you love coffee, you most likely like Iced Coffees of various flavors and styles...there are so many varieties and flavors to choose from these days at y our local coffee shop!  However, along with those coffee shop drinks, you also pay the coffee shop price.  Below is a recipe I saw on Tina's wonderful blog, Mommy's Kitchen.  What a great idea AND a huge cost savings if you drink a lot of iced coffee!

Use this base recipe to make any variety of coffee by using half of this concentrate along with half milk (for typical Iced Coffee) or along with some condensed milk and ice (for Vietnamese Iced Coffee) or along with some condensed milk/sugar/cardamom/cinnamon (Thai Iced Coffee).  The possibilities are endless!

Coffee Concentrate
Recipe courtesy of Mommy's Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 1 c. ground coffee
  • 32 oz. container (1 quart)
  • Strainer
  • Large basket type coffee filters (about 2)
Directions
Place ground coffee in container, fill with cold water. Cover & let sit on counter top for twelve to fifteen hours. Place strainer over large bowl & put coffee filter inside. Slowly pour over about half of the coffee & let sit until strained. Replace filter & repeat.

To make regular coffee: Place equal parts coffee concentrate & water in cup & heat.

To make iced coffee: Place equal parts concentrate & milk in glass. Add ice, sweeten as desired. Add sugar or sugar substitute & any flavored syrup of your choice.

Now this should be something I should have made all throughout the summer! Thanks for sharing this and I plan on making some to enjoy before summer is completely over!
